AXA and Conneqtech are pleased to announce that their AXA-IN Smart Guard, an advanced e-bike security solution, has received KIWA certification for Electronic Security Systems for Two-Wheelers. This certification significantly simplifies and enhances the reliability of insuring e-bikes and recovering stolen e-bikes equipped with Smart Guard.
Starting from April 1, 2024, most insurers will require a KIWA-certified tracker for e-bikes valued at more than 4,500 euros. The AXA-IN Smart Guard, developed by Conneqtech, Betronic, and AXA, now meets this requirement. From June, this innovative security solution will be available at all bike specialists and distributors in the Netherlands.
The AXA-IN Smart Guard offers an easy-to-install aftermarket solution that can be activated by the bike specialist. It allows e-bike owners to track the location of their bikes and receive alerts if the bike is unexpectedly moved. In the event of theft, owners can immediately notify the bike recovery service via the app, which can quickly track the bike using the GPS location from the AXA-IN Smart Guard tracker.
To obtain KIWA certification, Conneqtech provided three e-bikes equipped with AXA-IN Smart Guard for extensive testing. The test panel thoroughly examined the GPS tracking, and all three e-bikes were successfully recovered by KIWA. This certification confirms that the AXA-IN Smart Guard fully complies with the requirements set by KIWA (and insurers).
The introduction of this new GPS solution comes at a crucial time, as bicycle theft is on the rise. According to the Safety Monitor by CBS, 6.5% of Dutch citizens experienced bike theft in 2023, affecting more than one million people. E-bike owners, in particular, are increasingly targeted due to the rising value of these bikes.
